  • ACE

    A hole in one! The golf ball is hit just once (from the tee) and ends up in the hole. Usually on a par 3, though occasionally a big hitter can achieve an ace on a par four.
  • ADDRESS

    The posture taken by a golfer when getting ready to strike the ball. How the golfer positions himself relative to the golf ball.
  • AGGREGATE

    A golf score made up of two or more holes or two or more rounds of golf or two or more golfers.
  • AIR SHOT

    When a golfer attempts to hit the golf ball but misses the golf ball completely and simply strikes the air instead. There is a penalty shot added to the golfers score for missing the golf ball.
  • ALBATROSS

    A golfing term when the golfer scores three shots less than the par score on a given hole.
  • AMATEUR

    A golfer who plays golf without being paid either in appearance fees or prize money.
  • APPROACH SHOT

    The golf shot which is played by the golfer resulting in the golf ball finishing its flight on the putting green. This golf shot is usually played from the golf fairway.
  • APRON

    The manicured grassy area surrounding the golf putting green. Often shorter grass than the fairway but longer grass than the putting green.
  • ATTEND THE FLAG

    When a golf caddy or golf playing partner holds the flag for the golfer, and removes the flag if the golf ball is likely to end up in the hole.
