• R and A

• READING THE GREEN

  Anticipating the path the golf ball will take to the hole by analyising the contour and texture of the putting green.

• RELEASE

  The point in the downswing where the golfer uncocks their wrists.

• REVERSE OVERLAP

  A putting grip in which the index finger of the right hand overlaps the little finger of the left.

• RIM

  The edge of the cup.

• ROAD HOLE

  The 17th hole at St. Andrews golf course. Meant to be the most difficult golf hole in the world.

• ROUGH

  Long grass areas adjacent to fairway, greens, tee off areas or hazards.

• ROUND

  A complete game of golf - 18 holes is one round.

• RUB OF THE GREEN

  When the golf ball is deflected by anything beyond the golfer's control. A bit of bad luck.

• RUN

  The distance the golf ball rolls on the ground.
